Mariah drops diva act to hang with tweens

After a “flight delay” left Mariah Carey with little choice but to miss the Nickelodeon Halo Awards orange carpet arrivals and upstage her hubby Nick Cannon at the Newseum on Wednesday, the diva redeemed herself by giving some unexpected love to younger patrons at Morton’s.

According to our spies, dining next to Carey and Cannon at the downtown steakhouse was a family visiting from West Virginia to celebrate their daughter’s birthday with a visit to the White House Christmas tree.

The girl’s father sent over a bottle of wine to Carey, a typical gesture for celebs, but Carey actually took note. Her security detail scooped the girls up for some one-on-one time with the queen behind closed doors.

“Can you say best tween birthday present EVER?!?” our source said.

We guess that beats the White House Christmas tree.
