“Have you…have one of you been friends with Barack Obama?”
– A young boy’s question to President Obama’s half-sister Maya Soetoro-Ng, among others, at Wednesday’s “Let’s Read, Let’s Move” event at the Department of Education. Soetoro-Ng was joined by Chef Spike Mendelsohn, Corporation for National and Community Service head Robert Velasco and NFL player Chris Draft for an afternoon of reading and exercising. Soetoro-Ng gave the politically correct response of” he’s a friend of many,” and discussed how her brother inspired her to write her new children’s book, “Ladder to the Moon.” Another tot asked the panel if they had ever been to the White House. “I have been to the White House,” Soetoro-Ng responded, getting laughs from the knowing grown-ups in the audience.
