Dole stars in ad for Pat Roberts

Former Kansas Sen. Bob Dole has been a fixture on the campaign trail supporting Sen. Pat Roberts, who faces upside-down odds of winning re-election against Independent Greg Orman.

Now, Dole is the star of a television ad supporting Roberts.

“Hello everyone,” Dole says in the ad. “In case you’ve forgotten, I’m Bob Dole, and I want to talk about my good friend Pat Roberts.”

Dole goes on to extoll Roberts’s virtues as a “fourth-generation Kansan” and a “workhorse in the Senate.”

“The stakes are high. The choice is clear,” Dole adds. “We need to keep Pat Roberts in the Senate.”

The Kansas Senate race has been the shock of the election cycle as Roberts, whose seat was considered safe, has come face-to-face with an existential crisis in the aftermath of a New York Times report that revealed Roberts no longer lives in Kansas.

With his path to re-election in doubt, Republicans have rushed to assemble a campaign operation where there was none.

Roberts still lags behind Orman, who has received implicit support from Democrats, although he has not said what party he would caucus with in the Senate.
