Firefighters looking for owners of rescued goats

The culprits who tried to evade capture after an Upper Marlboro traffic tie-up weren’t your typical suspects.

When two pygmy goats were in the roadway Thursday — wandering in front of oncoming traffic and causing cars to swerve — Prince George’s County fire and rescue crews stepped in. Authorities stopped traffic on the 8000 block of Croom Road as firefighters, landscapers and other citizens tried to capture the animals.

The fire department said the goats crawled under vehicles and fire equipment and sent authorities on a chase through weeds and trees before they were ultimately apprehended.

Now, the fire department is trying to find the animals’ owner. One goat had a sticker with the number 574 on its head. Anyone who has information can call the fire department at 301-883-7745 or 443-404-9375.
