Stemming from a data dump by hackers from AshleyMadison.com, a site for extramarital affairs, more than 15,000 government emails tied to the site have been discovered.
As reported in The Washington Post, Washington D.C. has topped an Ashley Madison list for most adulterous cities for three years and now we know why.
The Hill noted that emails in the data release are tied to the State Department, Department of Homeland Security, Congress, and other federal agencies.
Many of the emails, however, could be fake. Ashley Madison doesn’t check the validity of emails, so the number is probably inflated.
Hackers stole the information a month ago, demanding that Ashley Madison’s owner, Avid Life Media, take down the site, as well as EstablishedMen.com, a similar site for young women to connect with rich older men.
When the sites weren’t pulled, the hackers released the data. The data contains users’ names, addresses, credit card information, physical preferences, and other information.
