SOUTHAMPTON, N.Y. (AP) — Officials on eastern Long Island say the Southampton Elementary School will be closed Wednesday after a student was confirmed to have a strain of enterovirus.
The student does not have the D68 strain that is causing severe respiratory issues for patients throughout the country.
Southampton School District Superintendent Scott Farina says in a website statement that the unidentified student is seeking treatment.
As a precaution, officials will close the elementary school on Wednesday.
An outside professional cleaning company will disinfect the entire building and apply an anti-bacterial product to prevent the spread of germs.
The school is expected to reopen on Thursday.
