Julie Donaldson co-anchors “SportsNet Central” with Chick Hernandez and has quickly become a fixture at CSN.
A year ago, Donaldson was looking to settle down after working in Boston, Miami and New York. She had covered the Red Sox, Yankees and Heat and her work as an anchor drew rave reviews from broadcast insiders.
She met with the brass at Comcast SportsNet Mid-Atlantic, and it did not take long before she realized she wanted to be part of the CSN team.
Donaldson on what makes CSN so special » I know this might sound strange, but the first moment I stepped into the newsroom I knew that was where I wanted to be. There was an air of professionalism, but at the same time these people enjoyed what they were doing and having fun. They take pride in everything they do, both in front of the camera as well as behind the scenes.
Donaldson on her schedule » We start with a 10 a.m. conference call to talk about what we will be doing that day. Then we have a 3 p.m. meeting at the studio to layout the show. And then we are off and running to get the 6 p.m. show together, and we don’t stop till our 7:30 p.m. meeting to talk about the 10 p.m. show. To say things move quickly, would be an understatement.
Donaldson on working with Hernandez » He is a super professional, but at the same time he is one of the funniest people I have ever met. We really enjoy working together, and with the amazingly talented team of reporters and co-anchors I have to work with me, I am really blessed. I will say that some of the best stuff is done off air as the reporters are waiting to come on for their live shots or talking with the gang at Capitals, Wizards or Redskins postgame shows just before we go on air. We really should show some that stuff. We have fun and do good work, and I really could not ask for a better job.
