» Sean Penn, in town for a private screening of his new film, “Into the Wild.” A few Yeas & Nays spies spotted him smoking a cigarette outside the Landmark E Street Cinema before heading inside.

The screening, which was organized by the Glover Park Group, featured an intimate dinner afterward. Penn later joined four others for dinner at Central.

» LL Cool J, in town for the Howard University Homecoming, spotted at the Crystal City Hyatt (along with two huge bodyguards, obviously).

» Martin Scorcese, spotted at last week’s International Campaign for Tibet gala.

» Jason Schwartzman, in town to promote his latest film, “The Darjeeling Limited,” was at the AMC Georgetown theater Friday night for a screening and Q&A.

» The Pittsburgh Penguins, in town to play the Washington Capitols, are staying at the Grand Hyatt Hotel.

» The Arizona Cardinals, in town to play the Redskins, are staying at the Crystal City Hyatt.

» And because no bar is too low for celebrities in D.C., you may have spotted “Without a Trace” star Anthony LaPaglia, Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell and Hootie & the Blowfish drummer Jim “Soni” Sonefeld at RFK Stadium on Saturday attending a tribute match honoring D.C. United legend Marco Etcheverry.

» And guess who’s coming to town?! George Clooney! Starting on Thursday, the star will be here to film “Burn After Reading,” a Coen brothers film set for a 2008 release.

» Stephen Colbert speaking about “‘Truthiness,’ Justice, and the American Way” at George Washington University on Friday night.

» President Bush fishing in the Chesapeake Bay with the host’s of ESPN’s “Offshore Adventures.” Said Bush about Vice President Dick Cheney: “The Secret Service won’t let me go hunting with him.” Bush did not catch any fish.
