Eleanor Holmes Norton botches her Iraq War history

It was a good try, Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-D.C.).

Holmes Norton, who maintains a ceremonial position in the House of Representatives, botched her history while speaking during a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing about the 2012 attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

“In Libya and of course in Iraq, clearly one of the unintended consequences surely would’ve been a renewed conflict between the Sunni and the Shi’a,” Holmes Norton said. “And yet we went in head first, perhaps the most catastrophic war of the 20th Century, invasion by the United States of America.”

The Iraq War, of course, took place in the 21st Century, not the 20th.

Apparently Holmes Norton has been reading the same history books as Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-Texas) and MSNBC host Chris Matthews.
