Presumptive Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump fired back at Hillary Clinton on Sunday, claiming she misrepresented comments he’s made about allowing guns in school classrooms.
“Donald Trump would force schools to allow guns in classrooms on his first day in office,” Clinton, the likely Democratic nominee, said during a speech Saturday evening at a Trayvon Martin Foundation event in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Trump, who received the National Rifle Association’s coveted endorsement 24 hours prior to Clinton’s speech, suggested the former secretary of state didn’t know what she was talking about.
“They’re just words,” he told Fox News on Sunday. “She talked about guns in classrooms, I don’t want to have guns in classrooms.”
“Although in some cases, teachers should have guns in classrooms because frankly, things that are going on in our schools are unbelievable,” he added.
Trump repeated that he is “not advocating guns in classrooms,” but said “in some cases, teachers, trained teachers, should be able to have guns in classrooms.”
The New York billionaire has also promised to abolish gun-free zones if he’s elected to the White House, which would presumably include schools and college campuses, many of which do not currently allow students or instructors to carry firearms.
