One of my favorite sites, Pro Football Focus, rated all the available free agents and posted it earlier Wednesday. While I don’t always agree on every opinion or finding they have, I do know they put a ton of research into watching games and reviewing players. Yes, there’s subjectivity but that’s also the case in scouting period. Regardless, it’s one site’s in-depth rating.
Check out the entire free agent class here.
Here’s a quick rundown of how they rated the Redskins’ free agents. A negative number obviously isn’t good:
WR David Anderson (-2.3)
DE Adam Carriker (-9.5). I thought Carriker had a better year than this; wasn’t spectacular but was fine and sometimes solid.
CB Phillip Buchanon (0). Well, he didn’t play after all.
TE Fred Davis (-2.7). Clearly they take blocking into account.
LB London Fletcher (19.8). 14 free agents had a higher number, with 13 ranging between 19.9 and 35.2. Then there was Drew Brees who was tops at 60.2. Fletcher was second among middle/inside linebackers, trailing only Detroit’s Stephen Tulloch (20.8).
LB Keyaron Fox (4). He only played 51 snaps so take it for what it’s worth.
PK Graham Gano (16.5). He’s a restricted free agent. Fellow free agent kickers include Matt Prater (35.2) and Mike Nugent (25.5).
DE Kedric Golston (1).He had a better year than in 2010.
QB Rex Grossman (-13.2). Turns out that turnovers are bad.
RB Tim Hightower (4.7). Season was cut short.
SS LaRon Landry (2.3). Sounds about right. Minimal impact.
LG Kory Lichtensteiger (2.7). He’s also restricted. Mike Shanahan considered him their best run blocker.
OT Sean Locklear (-6.4). Is that all?
LB Rocky McIntosh (-8.7). I’d love to know what his rating was for the first four games or so and then thereafter. Seemed to be a clear dropoff.
C Will Montgomery (-6.4). By comparison, C Jeff Saturday (supposedly now retiring) rated a 14.2. And Texans free agent C Chris Myers is a 29.8. But I’m not convinced the Redskins will make a move here, or, at the least, could be content to go with the status quo. If Maurice Hurt improves, they can always move Lichtensteiger to C.
DE Darrion Scott (-0.5). Backup.
WR Donte Stallworth (0.1). Strong finish; but need playmakers here.
CB Byron Westbrook (3.3). Received a lot of time in last two games; was OK. Number based on 127 snaps.
