5-year-old Fairfax boy disappeared with dad

Authorities are looking for a 5-year-old boy who is believed to have been abducted by his father this summer.

Police allege that Mario Olguin-Bocangel’s father abducted him from Fairfax County on July 29, 2011, said Melinda Stevens, director of the missing-children division of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Mario’s mother had legal custody of him, but the boy’s father had visitation rights, Stevens said.

Mario Olguin picked up his son, who was 4 years old at the time, for a scheduled weekend visitation, according to Fairfax County Crime Solvers. Two days later, when the child’s mother went to retrieve him, both were gone.

The pair were last spotted in Texas, but investigators think they could have gone to Mexico, Stevens said. Authorities say the two were last seen in Dallas on July 30.

Stevens said NCMEC has created posters about the abduction that have been distributed around the Washington region, as well as in Texas, near the United States’ border with Mexico.

Mario is described as Hispanic, about 3 feet 6 inches tall and 38 pounds, according to the NCMEC. He has black hair and brown eyes. The boy also has a scar on his right forearm and a mole on his forehead.

His father is described as Hispanic, about 5-foot-7 and 135 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.

Anyone with information about the disappearance is asked to call the NCMEC at 800-THE-LOST (800-843-5678) or Fairfax County Crime Solvers at 866-411-TIPS (8477). Tipsters can also send a text message that says “TIP187” plus the information to CRIMES (274637).
