On this day in crime history – August 3

On this day in 2005: Paris Talley, a three-week-old baby in Dayton, Ohio, is killed by being “cooked” in a microwave oven. The baby’s mother, China Arnold, now 27, is charged with aggravated murder and could face the death penalty if convicted. She has pleaded not guilty. Her fi rst trial ended in a mistrial and a new trial is pending.

The baby’s death was only the second on record in the nation believed caused by microwave oven. A 20-year-old Lanexa, Va., mother was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the 1999 death of her 5-week-old son.
