Throwback Tuesday: Hillary Clinton announces 2008 presidential run

Eight years ago today, then Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) announced she was forming a “presidential exploratory committee.”

In the video of her announcement, Clinton emphasized the need to “restore respect for America around the world.” President Obama has sure done a swell job accomplishing that.

Clinton also complained about the lack of universal health care, a problem that Obama — with the help of folks like Jonathan Gruber — has solved, not without a few broken promises and one big faulty website.

“I’m not just starting a campaign, though,” Clinton explained in the video. “I’m beginning a conversation. With you. With America.”

That conversation clearly went well, considering she lost.

Perhaps if Hillary makes the “hard choice” of running this time around, her “chat” with America will go a little bit better. At least she has her $275,000 speeches to fall back on if it doesn’t.
