No one in the national media will admit it, but former President Bill Clinton gave a much better speech at the Democratic National Convention than former first lady Michelle Obama.
The thing, though, is that Clinton on Tuesday attempted to sell voters on a man called “Joe Biden,” who we can’t be sure even exists.
According to Clinton, Biden, 77, is as virile as an ox and can’t wait to roll up his sleeves and save the economy, crush COVID-19, and hoist every black person in America up out of poverty and onto his shoulders.
Clinton called Biden a “down-to-earth, get-the-job-done” guy who is “committed to building America back again.”
Obama’s speech the previous night was mostly remembered for her attack on President Trump as “in over his head,” and people can make up their minds about that. They can’t really do that for Clinton’s salesman-on-‘roids pitch for Biden because, well, where is he?
Biden has spent the last four months almost exclusively underground — in a basement, not buried — and has done maybe, what, two national TV interviews?
If Biden is as ready, strong, and pumping with testosterone as Clinton portrayed him, why has his campaign cordoned him off as if he were a crime scene?
Maybe Clinton is right, and Biden really is the guy he says he is. Voters might eventually like to see for themselves.
