CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) — The Rhode Island-based jewelry maker Alex and Ani has purchased a local winery and opened a coffee shop in what company executives say is a natural expansion for the rapidly growing company.

The company announced Thursday that it has bought the 170-acre Sakonnet Vineyards in Little Compton. The nearly $8.5 million purchase also includes 70 acres of nearby land.
