Donald Trump, while dismissing Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, and Jon Huntsman as “joke candidates,” said that he might run for president on a third-party ticket if he does not believe that the Republican nominee can beat President Obama.
“The equal time provisions dont allow me to run until May [when his TV show ends for the season],” Trump told NBCs Matt Lauer. “If the wrong candidate is nominated to run — if I think it’s a candidate that’s not going to win and not very good . . . and if the economy continues to be bad,” he said. “I would certainly think about running as an independent, yes.”
Trump also insulted Paul and Huntsman while talking about the Iowa debate that he plans to moderate. “I think most candidates are going to join, and I think these two candidates have zero chance of getting elected, so it makes no difference,” he said, adding that Huntsman and Paul “are joke candidates and they are doing very poorly.”
