Trump: ‘Kanye West has performed great service to the Black Community’

President Trump doubled down on his praise of Kanye West, arguing that the rapper’s support of him is a “great service” to black Americans.

“Kanye West has performed a great service to the Black Community – Big things are happening and eyes are being opened for the first time in Decades – Legacy Stuff!” Trump tweeted Friday morning.

The president also thanked Chance the Rapper and black pastor Darrell Scott.

“They really get it (lowest Black & Hispanic unemployment in history),” Trump said.

Amid West’s tweets on Trump earlier this week, Chance the Rapper voiced his support for his fellow artist, saying “black people don’t have to be democrats.”

West has said he’s neither a Democrat nor a Republican.

West spent much of Wednesday explaining his support for Trump, whom he met with after the 2016 election at Trump Tower in New York City.

He faced swift backlash from others in the music and entertainment industries for his tweets.

West was forced by his wife, reality TV star and businesswoman Kim Kardashian, to clarify some of his remarks about the president. Kardashian is a Democrat and supported Hillary Clinton in the presidential election.

West referred to Trump as his “brother” and defended the “right to independent thought.”

West’s support of Trump, however, does not mean he agrees with the president’s politics, West and Kardashian explained.

“[M]y wife just called me and she wanted me to make this clear to everyone. I don’t agree with everything Trump does. I don’t agree 100% with anyone but myself,” West wrote. “He never said he agrees with his politics,” Kardashian said.
