THE DEAL: Campbell Soup Co. says it will pay $1.55 billion to buy Bolthouse Farms, which sells baby carrots, high-end juices and refrigerated salad dressings.
THE STRATEGY: The Camden, N.J.-based company is looking to appeal to young adults and other consumers who are increasingly seeking out fresh, on-the-go foods. Campbell’s brands currently include Pepperidge Farm cookies, Prego spaghetti sauces and V8 juices.
