Takoma Park cops looking for man in bus stop assault

Maryland authorities are seeking a man who allegedly assaulted a mother and her 3-year-old child at a bus stop Friday morning.

Police in Takoma Park said a woman was waiting at a bus stop in the 7600 block of New Hampshire Avenue and Holton Lane when a man grew frustrated that the child was crying.

Authorities said the suspect told the woman to “shut her kid up,” but the child’s crying persisted, prompting the man to push the child in the head. When the mother attempted to protect her child, police say the suspect punched her before fleeing on foot.

The victims were not seriously hurt, police said.

Investigators described the suspect as a black male weighing about 150 pounds. Police said was about 5 feet 5 inches and had short twists in his hair.

Residents with information can call (301) 270-1100 to report it to police.
