Former NBA star Shaquille O’Neal shared some laughs with a tow man Tuesday night after apparently neglecting to feed a parking meter and getting a parking ‘boot’ on his truck.
A few hours after Spence Beck of ABS Booting placed the immobilizing contraption on O’Neal’s wheels outside an Atlanta restaurant, Beck received a call and immediately recognized O’Neal’s distinct voice on the other end. According to Beck, Shaq tried to play his way out of trouble by passing himself off as an official.
“I’m a U.S. Marhall, I need you to remove this boot,” O’Neal was reported to have said.
Crazy as it may have seemed, the idea was not too far-fetched. In 2005 the basketball legend was deputized, helping federal officials catch sexual predators.
Beck agreed to remove the boot inhibiting the vehicle for free under one condition — that Shaq let him star in one of his infamous Instagram videos. Shaq tweeted about the encounter, referring to Beck as “boot man.”
“They got me. Damn,” O’Neal joked on camera.
