Living Harvest, a company which was launched by a Canadian father and son team, promotes hemp as “nature’s miracle plant.” Among the company’s products are protein powders, organic hemp oil and organic hemp nuts, as well as the newly released Hempmilk.
The product debuted in January with three flavors — chocolate, vanilla and original — and is made from whole hemp nuts.
It boasts a “wide range of health benefits unique to the alternative dairy beverage category.” Among those benefits are omega-3 and omega-6 essential fatty acids, amino acids, vitamins and folic acid, as well as 46 percent of recommended daily calcium. And for those looking for more reasons to delve into a glass of Hempmilk, it touts that it’s vegan, raw, cold processed, organic, non-gmo, kosher, gluten-free, soy-free and dairy-free.
But, how does it taste? I had two big glasses of chocolate Hempmilk earlier this week and finished the carton today. It’s comparable to soy milk, but for those like myself who are allergic to soy, Hempmilk is a great alternative. The vanilla Hempmilk would be a fantastic additive to a protein shake as well as added to cereal or by itself.
“We wanted to offer a great-tasting, healthy product that we can feel good about giving to our own kids,” said Christina Volgyesi, president of Living Harvest.
Hempmilk retails for $4.59 for a 32-oz. carton. If you can’t find Hempmilk at your local grocery or organic store, visit www.livingharvest.com or call 800-690-3958.
