Secret Service deserts Sanders as he nears exit

Bernie Sanders is as close as one can get to dropping out of the presidential race, after news broke Tuesday evening that the Democratic presidential candidate is no longer under Secret Service protection.

The Vermont senator received federal protection in late January after proving he was a viable candidate in the Democratic primary.

The loss of security comes hours after Sanders endorsed Hillary Clinton for the nomination. Sanders may be the first candidate to endorse someone for president before dropping out of the race.

Sanders may still elect to have Secret Service protection as a U.S. senator, but most lawmakers turn down the service.
