Steve Bannon to return to House Intelligence Committee

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon will return to answer questions from members of the House Intelligence Committee Wednesday.

Ranking Member Adam Schiff, D-Calif., told reporters Bannon will return after his first appearance earlier this month, held behind closed doors, was shrouded in controversy.

Bannon, who Trump fired in August, largely avoided questions about his work on the Trump transition process before the president’s January 2017 inauguration. Bannon’s lawyer also relayed lawmakers’ questions to the White House during the testimony.

On Monday, the House Intelligence Committee voted to make public a classified memo written by the Republican majority that allegedly details abuses of federal surveillance authorities.

Democrats have said the memo is misleading, mischaracterizing, and a means to distract from the committee’s own investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election and possible collusion with the Trump campaign.

“No, we’re determined. We’re staying focused on conducting the Russia investigation,” Schiff said Monday when asked if the memo’s release signals the end of the committee’s probe.

Schiff said he also asked the Republican majority when former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski will return.
