Metrobus hit by possibly stolen vehicle

A Metrobus was hit in Northeast D.C. by a possibly stolen vehicle Tuesday morning, sending four bus riders to the hospital.

The H6 was heading north on 14th Street toward Brookland around 10:50 a.m. when a vehicle slammed into its side, coming from Hamlin Street, Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said.

After the crash, two people in the vehicle fled the crash scene, said Metropolitan Police Officer Araz Alali. They remained at large as of noon.

Both he and Metro said authorities are looking into whether the vehicle was stolen.

Nine of the 15 bus riders had injuries, including one bus driver who was riding the bus at the time, Stessel said. Four were taken to local hospitals with injuries not believed to be life-threatening.

It had not been formally established who was at fault but the intersection has stop signs on Hamlin, Stessel said. That suggests that the vehicle did not have the right of way.
