White House press secretary Sarah Sanders dismissed a Republican congressman’s call for President Trump’s impeachment following special counsel Robert Mueller’s resignation.
Sanders Wednesday characterized Rep. Justin Amash, R-Mich., as irrelevant as Amash again called for action to remove Trump. “I don’t think Congressman Amash is worth the time of the White House,” she said, deferring to Trump on whether he would support a primary challenge to the congressman.
Amash, who has not ruled out running against Trump as a Libertarian, is the first Republican to say Trump should be impeached.
Advocates for Trump’s impeachment described Mueller’s remarks as bolstering their case. Amash, the first Republican lawmaker to support impeachment, responded to Mueller’s remarks with a tweet saying, “The ball is in our court, Congress.”

Sanders said Trump was “wholly and completely exonerated” by Robert Mueller, even though the former special counsel emboldened Trump critics by saying Wednesday morning he had operated under legal guidance that a sitting president could not be charged with a crime.
Sanders said, however, that “if Bob Mueller had determined that there was a crime, he would have had a moral obligation to report it and put that into his report, but he didn’t.”
“We are always prepared, but I don’t think the American people deserve that,” Sanders told reporters on the White House driveway, referring to impeachment.
