NEW YORK (AP) — Authorities say a suspect has been wounded in the hand during a shootout with U.S. marshals who were serving a warrant in Queens.
New York City police say they were assisting the marshals when the gunfire erupted late Tuesday in Springfield Gardens.
No law enforcers were hurt.
Witness Samantha Johnson tells the Daily News (http://nydn.us/1pgUeJg ) that the marshals had broken an apartment door with a battering ram when the suspect opened fire. She says she heard around 15 shots.
Shaken neighbor Maryce Simpson describes “trying to keep the kids’ heads down.”
Witnesses said the suspect was wearing a bulletproof vest.
Last month, a California man who’d skipped town after being accused of molesting a boy was killed in a Manhattan shootout that involved marshals and other law enforcers.
