President Trump touted his administration’s commitment to transparency while announcing Judge Neil Gorsuch as his nominee for the Supreme Court on Tuesday night.
“This might be the most transparent nomination process in history,” the president told dozens of lawmakers and his senior aides gathered in the White House East Room.
Gorsuch was one of 21 potential candidates for the Supreme Court vacancy included on a list that Trump had released early on in his campaign. Trump had vowed at the time to nominate one of the 21 conservative individuals if elected president.
“Millions of voters said this was the single most important issue to them when they voted for me for president. I am a man of my word,” he said Tuesday, seconds before announcing Gorsuch nomination.
“I am a man of my word. I will do as I say,” Trump added.
