Oakton senior Jasmine Thomas, right, is among the most-decorated girls basketball players ever to hail from the Washington, D.C. area.
So it was fitting that the final high school game of her career was played on a court filled with star players from across the country at the annual McDonald’s All-America game in Louisville, Ky. on Wednesday.
Thomas, a four-time Northern Region player of the year who will play college basketball at Duke, scored 16 points and added six assists, nine rebounds and three steals to earn Most Valuable Player honors for the East team in a 105-76 victory over the West at Freedom Hall.
“It was an incredible moment,” said Oakton coach Fred Priester, who was in attendance. “I got chills when Jasmine received the MVP trophy from [legendary UCLA men’s basketball coach] John Wooden. I was running around looking for someone to hug.”
