Daily Outrage: John Doolittle earmark does lots for California theater

WHO: Former Rep. John A. Doolittle, R-CA

WHAT:  Doolittle’s $197,000 federal earmark is paying for restoration work on the exterior façade of the State Theater in Oroville, CA. The theater was designed by a once-prominent California architect. Oroville  “You’ll be able to see the decorative work around the windows much better when it’s done,” city engineer Rick Walls told the Chico Enterprise-Record.

WHY IT’S AN OUTRAGE: How about letting theatre patrons pay for the restoration? Or local philanthropists? Why is it always the taxpayers getting the bill?

TO VENT: Doolittle retired. His successor, Rep. Tom McClintock, is an ardent foe of wasteful federal spending. Call him at 202-225-2511.
