White House counselor Kellyanne Conway argued Thursday that President Trump’s hour-and-a-half Cabinet meeting the day before “shows his transparency.”
The freewheeling meeting, which the media was invited to watch, touched on a variety of topics, including Syria, the border wall, and politics, and it was roundly criticized for including a number of false or misleading statements.

“Look, I think the president is speaking for 95 minutes and holding forth on any number of issues shows his transparency and shows he is always willing to have the press in the room,” Conway said in an interview with Fox News.
Conway brought up “transparency” when asked about the appearance of a poster inspired by the HBO series “Game of Thrones” on the desk in front of Trump during the White House meeting. The poster, which was was originally posted to Twitter by the president in November, says, “Sanctions are Coming,” a play on the line from the books and the show, and also includes a photograph of Trump.
“I’ll let it speak for itself. The president will maybe be asked about that later on, but a lot was said yesterday,” Conway said.
Trump’s extended remarks were criticized by some politicos and journalists.
“If I were asked to fact-check TRUMP’s rambling 95-minute cabinet meeting performance, I’d probably still be curled up in the fetal position under my desk,” remarked the New York Times’ Kenneth Vogel in a tweet.
Outlets including the Times and the Associated Press ran fact-checks on Trump’s claims.
