Gay marriage bill hits major snag in Md.

The Maryland House of Delegates sent a landmark bill to allow gay marriage back to committee Friday afternoon, effectively killing the measure unless supporters can scrap together enough votes.

The House debated for two hours on Friday, but did not vote on the measure, as had been planned.

“We just didn’t have the votes. It was heartbreakingly close,” said state Sen. Jamie Raskin, D-Silver Spring.
