House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said Tuesday that she and other Democrats can only dream of having Republicans in the White House like the ones she used to oppose, like former Presidents George W. Bush and George H.W. Bush, or even Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz.
“President Lincoln, my favorite Republican president by far,” Pelosi told an audience at Georgetown University.
“But there have been some good ones,” Pelosi said. “Wouldn’t we pine now to have George Bush, either one, or John McCain? Not to go down that path…”
Pelosi has occasionally used former Republican presidents to lament the ongoing Trump presidency. At an event last August, Pelosi told an interviewer that “I never thought I’d pray for the day” for George W. Bush to be president again. She also has referred to Trump as “forty-five” instead of using his name.
