A 20-year-old District man was sentenced to 42 years for killing a son of a community activist during an armed robbery.
Reginald Rogers, 20, was convicted in February of first-degree murder and related charges in the shooting death of 18-year-old Calvin Woodland Jr., the son of the late Calvin Woodland Sr.

According to prosecutors, Rogers and an unidentified accomplice, both wearing masks, approached four people on Jan. 27, 2010, in a parking lot in the 800 block of Barnaby Street SE.
The masked men pulled guns, and two of the four people in the group were able to run away. The gunman rifled through Woodland’s and the other victim’s pockets, then walked away.
Rogers turned back and began to shoot the victims, hitting Woodland twice in the back.
