RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The U.S. Department of Transportation is awarding two grants worth $45 million to transportation projects in Richmond and the Virginia Port Authority.

U.S. Sen. Mark Warner’s office announced the grants Tuesday.

The $25 million Richmond grant will help support a rapid bus transit system linking Henrico County to Rocketts Landing, an emerging residential area on the James River.

The Department of Transportation is also awarding $15 million to help build an Interstate 564 connector project by the port that officials say will help relieve Norfolk congestion problems.
