No word from the Caps as of early, early Saturday morning, but the Hershey Bears’ postgame press release says forwards Jay Beagle and Mathieu Perreault have been recalled to Washington for Saturday’s game against the Atlanta Thrashers.
Both players left before Hershey’s 3-2 loss at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Friday night. Obviously, the Caps have been missing forwards Boyd Gordon (undisclosed) and Matt Bradley (lower-body injury) along with defenseman Mike Green (upper-body injury). Gordon has not been described as injured this week. Bradley remains on injured reserve. Both his status and Green’s is still questionable for Saturday.
Also, center Marcus Johansson left practice early on Friday and Matt Hendricks made it through despite taking a hard shot off the leg in Thursday’s loss at Boston. While Johansson has just one point through his games he was arguably the Caps’ best player on Thursday after a promotion to the second line, where he played well alongside Alex Semin and Brooks Laich. Seems unlikely that Perreault and Beagle would be recalled for anything other than an injury issue. The offense has struggled with eight goals in regulation the last five games, but things aren’t that dire yet. Beagle has one goal – his lone point – in four games with Hershey and Perreault has a goal and three assists in four games.
