ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — A man who prosecutors say fired his malfunctioning gun several times at employees in a store he was trying to rob has been convicted of attempted second-degree murder.

The Anne Arundel County State’s Attorney Office said on Thursday that 28-year-old Darius Cameron of Glen Burnie was also convicted of assault, use of a handgun in commission of a felony and other offenses. Sentencing is set for April 14.

Prosecutors say in August 2011, Cameron entered Anita’s Spanish Grocery in Annapolis, pointed a revolver at employees and demanded money. Authorities say he pulled the trigger several times, but the gun malfunctioned.

Prosecutors say the employees chased Cameron around the store until police arrived.
