Rep. Hank Johnson ripped into Rep. Matt Gaetz after the Florida Republican went after Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, for his drug addiction.
“I would say that the pot calling the kettle black is not something that we should do,” Johnson told Gaetz on Thursday in front of the House Judiciary Committee. “I don’t know what members, if any, have had any problems with substance abuse, been busted in DUI, I don’t know, but if I did, I wouldn’t raise it against anyone on this committee.”
Gaetz, 37, took aim at Biden during an impeachment hearing, saying, “I don’t want to make light of anybody’s substance abuse issue … But it’s a little hard to believe that Burisma hired Hunter Biden to resolve their international disputes when he could not resolve his own dispute with Hertz rental car leaving cocaine and a crack pipe in the car.”
In 2008, Gaetz was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. Authorities eventually dropped the charges against him. “I made bad decisions that resulted in an arrest, and that is sort of something that we all live with,” the Florida congressman said about the incident in 2014.
The Washington Examiner published new details about Biden’s drug addiction. In 1988, the son of the former vice president, then an 18-year-old, had his record expunged from an incident involving “a controlled substance.” The newly uncovered incident happened when his father, Joe Biden, was pushing for harsher drug laws in the Senate.
