The Alabama Republican Party passed a resolution calling on Congress to expel freshman Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar.
The Alabama GOP voted on the resolution during their summer meeting in Auburn this past weekend.
“Rep. Omar has engaged in rhetoric that explicitly runs counter to American values and patriotism by falsely accusing U.S. armed forces of committing war crimes while on mission to liberate her home country of Somalia,” the resolution stated. It also added that Omar “dismissed the 9/11 terror attacks” and “sympathized with a convicted terrorist” by advocating for “sentencing leniency,” according to AL.com.
“Omar has a disturbing record of using anti-Semitic language that includes alleging Jewish money is used to buy American influence regarding its policy toward Israel,” it went on to say.
Omar has faced numerous controversies since being sworn in back in January. Most recently, she and colleague Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan were barred from going to Israel by its government, citing a recent law that provides the government the power to deny entry for people who have publicly advocated for boycotts of the country.
