Poor, poor Newt

Put yourself in the shoes of any House Republican who is considering endorsing Newt Gingrich for president. For the overwhelming majority, who voted for the Ryan budget that he denounced over the weekend, it’s just not going to happen.

Of the four Republicans who voted against the Ryan plan, one of them is Ron Paul, who is running against Gingrich. Another is Walter Jones, who is all but certain to endorse Paul, if he endorses at all. The other two are Reps. David McKinley, R-W.Va., and Dennis Rehberg, R-Mont. Note that even in the event that either or both choose to endorse Gingrich, neither of their states has an important presidential primary.
