Carson: ‘I certainly hope’ a Muslim presidency ‘never happens’

The controversy over Ben Carson’s comments about a hypothetical Muslim president continued into this week.

While on the campaign trail Monday, Carson told ABC News that while he could see a Muslim reaching the White House at some point in history, he said that he hopes it “never happens.”

“I’m not going to say it could never happen. I certainly hope it never happens,” Carson told ABC’s Katherine Faulders. “And I certainly wouldn’t want to do anything to facilitating changing America to something else.”

Carson made the remark in response to Ann Romney’s comments in USA Today Monday morning that a Muslim presidency “might happen” at “some point.”

The famed neurosurgeon currently sits fourth in the Washington Examiner‘s latest power rankings.
