Man turns himself in for Temple Hills shooting

Prince George’s County police say a man turned himself in Friday evening for a fatal shooting in Temple Hills that occurred earlier in the week. Police were still interrogating the suspect Saturday evening and had not released additional information, according to spokesman Larry Johnson.

Earlier on Friday, police released the name of a suspect, 29 year-old James Allen Payne, wanted in connection with the shooting.

The shooting occurred around 9:35 p.m. on Thursday, Mar. 24 in the 4400 block of 23rd Parkway. The victim, Gregory L. Lawton Jr., 31, was found in a building entrance and was pronounced dead at the scene. Preliminary investigations revealed that Lawton and Payne were involved in a neighbor dispute during which Payne produced a handgun and shot the victim, police said.
