Trump’s approval rating increased in September for the first time since February

President Trump’s approval rating rose in September for the first time in seven months, according to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released Thursday.

The Sept. 14-18 survey of U.S. adults found Trump’s approval jumped to 43 percent, up 3 points from August to September. However, a majority of the country, 52 percent, still disapproves of the Republican leader’s job in office, a drop of 3 points since last month.

The only issue where Trump found support from a majority was his deal with congressional Democrats on legislation to keep the government open through mid-December. Seventy-one percent of those asked were happy he worked across the aisle, and only 8 percent disapproved.

The bipartisan deal and Trump’s recent focus on helping Texas and Florida recover from Hurricanes Harvey and Irma likely affected his overall approval ratings.

Trump’s next highest area of approval was the economy. Four-in-10 people supported the billionaire businessman’s economic results.

The telephone survey was conducted with 900 U.S. adults and had a 3.3 percentage point margin of error.
