A YouTube user has posted video showing the moment a member of the Blue Angels crashed last week.
Marine Capt. Jeff Kuss died Thursday after his F/A-18 Hornet crashed shortly after takeoff in Smyrna, Tenn. Cmdr. Mike Kafka, a Navy spokesman at the Pentagon, confirmed that the video is from the Thursday crash.
In the video, two Hornets can be seen doing maneuvers just outside of the airfield. One heads toward the ground before disappearing behind trees. After the camera pans to four other jets flying in the demonstration team’s diamond formation, black smoke is seen behind the trees where the jet appears to have crashed.
That same afternoon, a member of the Air Force Thunderbirds team crashed his jet but safely ejected after flying over the Air Force Academy graduation in Colorado Springs.
YouTube user Matthew Burns posted the video Tuesday. Kafka said the Navy already has obtained several videos from other angles that show the crash more clearly, and told the Washington Examiner that he would forward the Burns video link to Naval Air Forces.
