Put the champagne on ice: MLB gets its numbers wrong over Dodgers’ playoff berth

The Los Angeles Dodgers have not yet qualified for the 2022 MLB postseason after the league announced it made an error in its calculations.

The division-leading team would have been the first to punch its ticket to the postseason, but it will now require one more win to get the spot the team thought it already had.

The MLB said it failed to account for the possibility of the rival San Diego Padres winning the division and the Dodgers ending up in a three-way tie with the Milwaukee Brewers and St. Louis Cardinals, a scenario in which the Brewers would win their final 21 games, according to ESPN.

Should the Dodgers fail to win another game, the team can still qualify via various other situations in which other teams fail to win a certain number of games.

The Dodgers could win their division Tuesday after failing to win it last year despite having the second-best record in the MLB.
