NEW YORK (AP) — A motorcyclist has died after police say he lost control of his bike and rammed into a pole on a highway in New York City.

The New York Police Department says it happened around 12:30 a.m. Sunday on the Cross Bronx Expressway. Officers found 35-year-old Corri Samuels unconscious, with severe head and neck injuries. He was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital.

Samuels owned some residential buildings and an auto-towing business in the Bronx. A friend, Joe Ortiz, says Samuels was a married father devoted to his two school-age children.

Ortiz says Samuels was a longtime motorcycle rider.

Police are investigating what caused the wreck.
