Jon Stewart rips Democrats for race-baiting

“Oh, for f—s sake.”

That was Jon Stewart’s reaction to Democrats like Sen. Dick Durbin, (D-IL) who cried racism over Republicans’ refusal to confirm Obama-appointed Loretta Lynch as attorney general.

“Loretta Lynch, the first African-American woman nominated to be attorney general, is asked to sit in the back of the bus when it comes to the Senate calendar,” Durbin declared last week.

“No, she’s not,” an exasperated Stewart sputtered. “She’s waiting on a confirmation vote, tied to another bill.”  The sex trafficking bill in question has been delayed by arguments over its abortion provision.

“My guess is there is not a Senate procedural motion you could subject a person to that would rise to the level of Jim Crow segregation,” said Stewart sarcastically.

Then there’s the ever-delightful Rep. Charlie Rangel ( D- N.Y.), who suggested that Republicans blocking the nomination “come from states that used to have slaves,” and “can’t help themselves” from enjoying white privilege.

“If anything, Republicans are treating Lynch with the same low level of respect they consistently reserve for all of Obama’s appointees,” Stewart observed. “And by playing the race card when it’s not justified, Democrats risk being ignored when the race card is justified. Which it is, a lot.”
