Police have recovered the body of a local Muslim leader from a river in Prince William County after a day-long search.
Mohammad Mehboob, a member of the board of directors of the Muslim Association of Virginia, was found dead in the Occoquan River at around 12:30 a.m. Friday morning. Mehboob, 58, had gone missing on Thursday, and Prince William County police located his car near the Route 123 bridge crossing the river.
Fairfax County police joined the search, and the department’s Marine Patrol Unit eventually located Mehboob’s body with a sonar. The department’s dive team recovered the body with assistance from Prince William police.
No cause of death has been determined, police said.
