They were bitter rivals during the GOP presidential primaries, but now Donald Trump is urging “Little” Marco Rubio to run for reelection to his Florida Senate seat.
In a tweet published Thursday night, Trump somewhat unexpectedly suggested Rubio run for reelection to his soon-to-be-vacated seat.
“Poll data shows that @marcorubio does by far the best in holding onto his Senate seat in Florida. Important to keep the MAJORITY. Run Marco!” Trump wrote.

Rubio suspended his presidential campaign in March after he lost the Florida primary to Trump. He insisted he will be a “private citizen” next year and has made no claims on the delegates he had picked up in the primaries.
He also appears to have gotten over the barbs that he and Trump traded back and forth in acrimonious speeches and debates. Today he said he’d be willing to speak for Trump at the Republican National Convention and attacked the press for Trump rally coverage.
“Hope media will start to report truth, many of these violent protestors @realDonaldTrump events are ‘professional protestors’. Not grassroots,” Rubio tweeted, several hours before Trump publicly asked him to reconsider his retirement.
