And he’s my DMV (District/Maryland/Virginia) top 8

  1.  Georgetown (20-5)

Over the last four years, Hoyas are 10-18 from Valentine’s Day on.

  1.  Virginia (20-6)

Cavaliers are 7-5 in ACC, probably need two more combined wins – in regular season and conference tournament — to make NCAA tournament.

  1.  George Mason (23-6)

If winning close games makes you tournament tough, no team in the CAA will be better prepared for the conference tournament.

  1.  VCU (23-6)

I don’t care what the RPI says. If a team that made the Final Four the previous season wins 25 games, it should be in.

  1.  Maryland (15-11)

ACC standings now taking on clarity. Top three (Duke, UNC, FSU) are in NCAA tournament. Next three (UVa., Miami, NCS) are at 7-5 in the ACC and are building strong cases for selection. Of the rest, Maryland (5-7) has the best chance of replacing one of those, but probably needs to get to .500 in regular season and then win twice in the tournament to get in discussion.

  1.  Loyola (20-7)

The Gaels have split with Iona and Fairfield, the other top contenders in the balanced MAAC. Conference tournament will be played in Springfield, Mass.

  1.  American (18-9)

After two surprise losses by Bucknell, the all-important top seed in the Patriot League is up for grabs. Seeding is at a premium in the PL as it determines the home team throughout the conference tournament. With a win over Bison on Thursday, AU would be in a three-way tie for first with Bucknell and Lehigh.

  1. Old Dominion

Monarchs will get No. 4 seed in CAA tournament and will have to win it to make NCAA tournament.
